A new regional marketplace

Thailand's Creative Economy Agency (CEA) will launch the inaugural Bangkok International Content Market (BICM), with the first edition set for July 20-22. The event establishes a dedicated summer marketplace for film, series, and animation in a region seeing significant growth in content consumption and production. The CEA, a public body tasked with developing Thailand’s creative sectors, aims for the market to become an essential destination for international buyers, financiers, and co-producers looking to engage with Southeast Asian talent and IP.

The creation of BICM leverages Thailand's established reputation as a premier international shooting location. The government-backed initiative seeks to build on its production service industry by fostering the origination and export of its own intellectual property. The July scheduling positions it away from the year-end Asia TV Forum & Market in Singapore, offering a distinct mid-year platform for dealmaking.

Event structure and objectives

The BICM’s three-day program is designed as a fully-fledged industry gathering. It will feature structured content pitching sessions, where creators can present projects to commissioning editors and distributors, culminating in a series of awards. An industry conference will run concurrently, hosting panels on regional market trends and production challenges. A central exhibition hall and integrated networking platform will provide a foundation for sales and acquisitions.

This comprehensive model is intended to connect disparate parts of the content ecosystem, from independent animators to major streaming platforms. By fostering a single meeting point, the CEA plans to streamline business for the local and regional industry, attract foreign investment, and elevate the global profile of Thai and Southeast Asian creative works.
