Hulu sets April premiere for true-crime series 'Under the Bridge'

Hulu has set a spring premiere for 'Under the Bridge,' its true-crime limited series starring Lily Gladstone and Riley Keough. The eight-episode drama will debut its first two episodes on April 17, with subsequent episodes released weekly on the platform. The series adapts the late author Rebecca Godfrey's acclaimed 2005 book of the same name, which investigated the 1997 murder of 14-year-old Reena Virk.

The series and cast

'Under the Bridge' centers on the events leading to the killing of Virk (Vritika Gupta) after she attended a party with a group of teenage peers. The story is told through the eyes of Godfrey (Keough), the author who returned to her hometown to research the book, and a local police officer (Gladstone) investigating the case. Keough, an Emmy nominee for 2023’s ‘Daisy Jones & The Six,’ also serves as an executive producer. The casting of Gladstone follows her Academy Award-nominated turn in Martin Scorsese’s 2023 film ‘Killers of the Flower Moon.’ The main cast also includes Chloe Guidry, Javon 'Wanna' Walton, Izzy G., Aiyana Goodfellow, Ezra Faroque Khan, and Archie Panjabi.

The creative team and source

The series was developed for television by Quinn Shephard, who previously wrote and directed the 2022 film ‘Not Okay’ for Searchlight Pictures. Shephard executive produces alongside Samir Mehta, who served as a writer and producer on FX's 'The Americans.' The adaptation of Godfrey's nonfiction work aims to explore the hidden world of the young girls accused of the murder, examining the social dynamics and systemic failures that contributed to the tragedy. Godfrey, who passed away in 2022, was involved in the series' early development and is credited as an executive producer.
