Disney+ is partnering with Dutch public broadcaster NPO for 'Wolven', a locally produced reality series based on the popular strategy game 'The Werewolves of Miller's Hollow'. The unscripted competition represents a significant local content initiative for the streamer in the region.

A unique co-production

The series is the result of a co-production deal that places it on both Disney+ in the Netherlands and NPO's public broadcast channels. This hybrid distribution model allows Disney to invest in valuable local IP while leveraging the reach of an established national broadcaster. The strategy aims to embed the Disney+ service more deeply within the Dutch market. Karl Holmes, the Disney+ EMEA general manager, endorsed the project's communal nature. "It's the kind of show you want to watch together," Holmes said in a statement regarding the unscripted series.

Format and creative team

Production company IDTV, an All3Media-owned entity founded in 1977, is producing the project. Titled 'Wolven', which is Dutch for 'Wolves', the show adapts the core mechanics of the classic social deduction game. Billed as a psychological adventure, the format puts contestants together where they must work to unmask a small number of saboteurs, or "werewolves", hidden within the group. The show's structure, built on alliances and social maneuvering, translates the tabletop game's tension to a reality television setting, joining a growing list of game-to-screen projects that focus on unscripted competition.
